The winners of the 2022 Golden Globes have been announced – and Australian’s made their mark

2022 golden globes

Awards season has arrived for another year, heralded by the Golden Globes ceremony where several Australian actors have won across categories of the 2022 edition. In a scaled-back ceremony, a far cry from the fanfare of norm for Hollywood awards, the event announced its winners on social media through a slideshow on their website.

Nicole Kidman was awarded Best Actress (Drama) for her portrayal of Lucille Ball in Being the Ricardos, with Sarah Snook winning Best Supporting Actress (Drama) for her role in Succession. Kodi Smit-McPhee was also awarded Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Power of the Dog, one of the most awarded films of the evening with maker Jane Campion winning Best Director.

West Side Story was also presented a slew of awards, alongside Will Smith finally winning a Best Actor Golden Globe for King Richard, his first after more than five nominations across his career.

For the 2022 Golden Globes, there was no telecast, red carpet, comedic host or livestream due to the organisation behind the event criticised for its lack of diversity, as the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) ceased to have a diverse representation of voices included in its membership. The 2022 awards are the first edition since 1996 that have been dropped from typical broadcast on NBC.
