When the world falls apart and the male species is eradicated, I want Diane Lane and Diane Lane only to be my leader

Y: The Last Man

Could you possibly imagine a better outcome than a world without men? Especially, one where Diane Lane becomes your formidable leader? While for the most part, a society exempt from cisgender, creepy, gross and sexist men will remain nothing more than a fantasy for many of us; the characters that live inside the pages of the graphic novel series Y: The Last Man, are dealing with a different reality. An alternative universe that is finally coming to our screens courtesy of Hulu's upcoming series adaptation.

Based on the original comic books, written and illustrated in the early 2000s by Brian K. Vaughn and Pia Guerra, respectively; the series presents a chaotic alternative to life without the male species. But as always, there's a twist, which in this case, is the survival of Yorick (Ben Schnetzer) – the only man left on earth – and his pet monkey, Ampersand, who also is male. There always has to be one, doesn't there...

As you may have already concluded, this false utopia doesn't last for long, as woman start to come together in order to survive this new reality. If post-apocalyptic series' are your thing, or like us, you'll take any opportunity to see Lane on screen, here's everything you need to know about Y: The Last Man.

What is Y: The Last Man about?

After the world's male species is wiped out instantly by a plague, the remaining women are left to figure out how to survive as the only sex on the planet. Senator Jennifer Brown (Lane) has become the default leader of the new 'free world' – tasked with managing not only the impact of an unexplained plague; but the impending disruption of power to come and the grief of losing her own son. Oh so she thought.

Surprise, Yorick is Brown's son and she has no idea that he is still alive (oh and don't worry, this isn't a spoiler alert). As the only source of the XY chromosome left on the planet, naturally, everyone is on the hunt to secure this man. Throw in the growing power of factions with their own means and motive and you have one explosive series.

If this already sounds like a lot, you better buckle up because the original source material actually spans a total of 10 collected paperbacks.

Who is starring in the series?

As we already know, Lane is taking the lead here as Senator Brown and Yorick is being portrayed by Schnetzer. Other prominent cast members include Ashley Romans and Olivia Thirlby – but the nature of their roles is still unknown.
