Since 2008, Van Cleef & Arpels' Perlée fine jewellery collection has paid homage to the emblematic gold bead motif; a precious and harmonious part of their savoire-faire and stone expertise. Across its yellow gold, rose gold and white gold iterations, it has long been a delicate and joyfully feminine addition to the repertoire of the German fine jewellery Maison.
This year, for the holiday season, the Maison is reuniting once again with French visual artist Arthur Hoffner to reimagine its signature Perlée fine jewellery collection displays.
Through a series of ribbon-like sculptures, the simplicity and inherent beauty of the gold bead is illuminated.
"The Perlée collection is an ode to the golden bead, to its brilliance, roundness, and movement," said Hoffner of the collaboration.
"This is how I envisioned the series of sculptures and displays that surround it: a colourful world where a ribbon unfurls, enlivening the space with its curves and draping the shapes on which the beads evolve in a well-orchestrated ballet."
Hoffner has worked at the intersection of sculpture and live art; his practice a melting pot of varying artistic disciplines. Fascinated by natural forms and the techniques of ironwork, each sculptural work is an opportunity for wonderment.
Faithful to the traditions of the Maison, Hoffner has imagined an enchanting scenery inspired by the contours of a mountain village, where the collection's sparkling golden beads joyfully dance in the snow – Hoffner choosing to illustrate the snow conceptually through mineral materials.
"It was a pleasure for me to continue this collaborative adventure with Van Cleef & Arpels," said Hoffner, "And to find new combinations between my work as a visual artist and this playful and joyful collection, where shapes combine and interact to create a feeling of harmony.”
