The Importance of wearing clothes – Bottega Veneta reveals ‘Salon 01’ Spring 21 collection

“It’s good to be safe, but you know it’s really important to be bold.”

The Importance of wearing clothes. Bottega Veneta has unveiled its Salon 01 Spring 21 collection through the release of a new film.

The collection was first presented to a curated special audience at Sadler’s Wells theatre in London on October 9. Shown to the likes of Kanye and North West, musician Neneh Cherry, actress Sheila Atim, musician Stormzy, model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, musician Skepta, iconic actress Salma Hayek-Pinault, artist Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, musicians Nubya Garcia and Oliver Sim (The XX) and many more, the notable global personalities got a first-hand look at the Spring 21 collection before anyone else.

With the official event experience, Creative Director Daniel lee wanted to explore the idea of a more pared-back and personal approach to present his main collections. Redefining the way the Luxury House engages with its audience, the execution of a smaller scale and more intimate show was sensitive to the times in which we are living.

“Sometimes you need to get dressed up and feel bad and hot and sexy.” Neneh Cherry.

The collection film titled Salon 01 London was voice-overed with music by Neneh Cherry and shot and directed by long time Bottega Veneta and Daniel Lee collaborator, Tyrone Lebon. A green screen opens up to the intimate performing arts venue in Clerkenwell London, as masked guests take their seat and the show begins to alternating coloured light shades and models wearing tonal ensembles.

A softer approach, the Salon 01 collection evokes comfort and freedom, executed with precision and control. With a focus on incredible knitted pieces, tailoring and handcraft, the nostalgic garments reference 60s silhouettes with an ease. Fabrics are generous, creating the ultimate cosy desire to be worn.

Part of the Spring 21 project reveal also includes a series of three books and a record. Book one: Universe of Bottega Veneta, delves into the making of the collection, Book Two: Process is a collaboration with German artist Rosemarie Trockel, and Book Three: Presentation, shot by Tyron Lebon features collection and backstage imagery from the Salon 01 London presentation.
