The Australian Ballet is bringing dance to the country for its 2022 Regional Tour

The Australian Ballet is hitting the road. For one month between 27 July to 27 August, the company will perform in regional cities across the country in a bid to revive its annual Regional Tour for 2022.

After a two-year hiatus, lovers of dance will have the opportunity to get swept up in three classic ballets from the comfort of their own hometowns; from Flames of Paris and La Bayadère to a contemporary reinterpretation of Tchaikovsky’s beloved score with Swan Lake Variations.

With scheduled stops in Launceston, Hobart, Bendigo and Mildura, Broken Hill and Alice Springs, the Regional Tour is a chance for dancers from The Australian Ballet and graduating students from The Australian Ballet School to connect with audiences outside their own orbit and spread a little magic.

“Our Regional Tour is a vital link to ballet-loving audiences around the country," says Artistic Director David Hallberg. "Many of our dancers’ careers were cultivated in remote and regional dance schools across the nation and we hope our regional performances will inspire kids in Australia to explore dance with The Australian Ballet."

"For budding dancers or those new to ballet, the opportunity to witness their national ballet company in, or close to, their hometown, is a great way to demonstrate how rich the arts are here in Australia and just what they can achieve or who they can aspire to be,” Hallberg continued.

As part of the Regional Tour program, the public will also get to peek behind the velvet curtains of dance. Masterclasses will be held in Mildura and Bendigo for dance students, where they'll be mentored and taught by staff at The Australian Ballet. As well as this, the public can sit in as The Australian Ballet dancers rehearse and finetune their technique ahead of each performance.
