Sydney Sweeney joins stacked cast for Ron Howard’s new Hans Zimmer-soundtracked thriller ‘Eden’

Sydney Sweeney joins cast for Ron Howard's new thriller 'Eden'

We here at RUSSH are unashamed Sydney Sweeney fans – from her breakout role as the love-to-hate-her Cassie on HBO's Euphoria, to her leading lady role in the soon-to-be-released Sydney-backdropped rom-com Anyone But You. So it's much to our delight to hear that she's only just this morning joined the cast for a new survival thriller entitled Eden, set to head into production later this month.

What is the film Eden about?

Eden is slated to be a survival thriller film, directed by Oscar-winning director Ron Howard. The project was previously titled Origin Of Species, but has since had a name change.

The film centres on a real-life unsolved mystery, set on a remote island in the Galapagos. For more than 15 years, Howard has been itching to retell this story – a story he's had on his mind since he first visited the Galapagos Island where the real-life events first took place.

As for the exact plot? All we know so far is that the film will "chart the lengths humans will go in pursuit of happiness". Sounds intriguing.

Who else is part of the Eden film project?

Alongside Sydney Sweeney, Oscar-nominated actor Vanessa Kirby will be taking on a leading role in the film. (Interestingly, the project originally had Alicia Vikander and Daisy Edgar-Jones attached in the two lead roles.) This new duo will join a stacked cast list that includes Jude Law, Ana de Armas and Daniel Bruhl among others.

Behind the camera, alongside director Ron Howard, we'll find the inimitable maestro Hans Zimmer composing – the tenth collaboration between the two Oscar winners since the early 90s blockbuster Backdraft.

When will the film Eden be released?

The film is slated to begin production as early as this month, so we're expecting a late-2024 release at this point. We'll keep you updated as we hear more details.
