The warmer days have us feeling more at ease with taking a step back from our rigorous routine, and who can blame us? While our hair may be salty and our base minimal, statement nails are something we will always make time for. With the festive season beckoning and one’s hand never shy without a glass sparkling, it’s the perfect time to add some shine to the fingertips. While so often we think of nail art as being associated with bold statements, it’s the minimal approach of muted pinks and soft pearls that have been giving us our fill of summer nail inspiration.
Having spent so much time indoors recently, the prospect of statement nails is something that feels quite foreign. Long gone are the days of talon tipped squared-off ends. This summer we're seeing the reemergence of a more understated and eloquent take. The classic round shapes have been a particular favourite, and it seems even the simplest style can make an impact when painted with the right nude hue. It's this return to chic and straight-forward shapes that have been attracting the attention of the catwalks across the board. Designers like Sandy Liang debuted their take on the humble French manicure at NYFW. In this case, a tonal nail bed accented with a minimal black and white daisy press-on tip. Jason Wu followed suit, staying neutral with a muted brown with the slightest curvature at the ends.
Consider this to be the appropriate time to return to the height of classic sophistication. Natural and low-maintenance, round nails are the ideal choice whether your style is classically elegant or a little more adventurous. If you're still feeling so compelled for something a little bit extra, you can add a hint of glitter to the mix.
