The winter shoes we’re coveting right now

It’s winter, and our editors are slipping into something more comfortable – shearling-lined, suede-trimmed, or sleek in satin. From kitten heels to cowboy boots, these are the shoes the RUSSH editors are coveting this season.

I recently tried on these Nelson Made boots, and honestly, they’re perfect. No notes.

Nothing says winter luxury like a velvet slipper, and this pair with contrast piping by Toteme look very luxurious indeed. These Ayede ballet flats have been on my list for a while now. I’d always imagined opting for black, but this chocolate brown colourway feels like a considered choice for winter. For a night out, I love the idea of these kitten heels peeking out under a pair of silk trousers, or my favourite jeans.

Definitely eyeing off the Elka Collective Lena Mary-Janes and Ilaria Ballet Flats in Espresso – both so chic and the perfect shade of chocolate brown. I also recently got a pair of the EVERAU Ultra Mini Platforms for wearing around the house, and they’re a real treat for my cold toes. My dream pair of shoes right now are the Miu Miu Leather Brogues. Utter perfection. I could cry.

I have a few pairs of footwear on my wishlist for this season. Firstly, these Miu Miu Leather Boots are just – chef’s kiss. For something more affordable, I like these Tony Bianco Biker Black Wax boots.

Salomons are always a winner and these Black & Phantom XT-6s are currently in my cart.

I don’t know if it’s the pairing with cute socks or not but I love ballet flats in winter. The Row Stella Slipper has been a wishlist item for a while so who knows where my tax return will go if I am lucky…

I also must add that the black silk satin ones from Chanel are in my dreams.

I’m fairly simple when it comes to shoes, and I like investing in a few pairs each season that will look good with everything. At the top of my wishlist is a pair of Repettos. There are so many cute colours these days, but I think my first pair needs to be black. And tying for first place are these boat shoes from Alias Mae.

I’m quite tall, so I rarely wear heels. Instead, something like these Margiela Tabis (I’ve recently been hyper-fixating on white ballet flats in general), or even these kitten heels by The Row are a nice way to dress up an outfit.

And finally, I spent all of last winter wishing I had a good pair of boots, so I learnt from my mistakes and got myself these ones by Tony Bianco. They’re already a wardrobe MVP.

I’ve been trying to be more deliberate this year with my footwear choices and not just go for the same comfy pair every day. That being said, my chunky low-rise Dr Martens are still my go-to and I weirdly get a lot of compliments on them. The double platform makes them perfect for wearing under longer pants that you don’t want to drag on the ground, and they add an edgy feel to a more feminine outfits which I love.

If you’re anything like me, keeping your ankles warm in winter is a priority (I see you bad circulation girlies) which makes boots a non-negotiable. These cuban heeled ankle boots from COS are perfect under jeans, as are these Senso ones. I also can’t go past a pair of knee-high boots which make wearing some of my summer clothes in winter almost bearable. COS do some great ones, as do Isabel Marant (these are perfect if you want something in between a traditional knee high boot and a cowboy boot). If you can handle a heel then a Paris Texas croc-embossed pair should be at the top of your list.

On weekends I’m realistically rolling around in a pair of sneakers – either these incredible black New Balance ones or a pair of burgundy or rust coloured sambas (I’m still deciding). For night time I want a fun pair of red mules. Either these Tony Bianco kitten heels, or the slides of my dreams from Deadly Ponies.

I have to admit, I'm obsessed with the new Maggie Marilyn Essen collection, the chocolate suede is beautiful. I have some Essen flats in leather and they are so comfortable, I'm assuming the suede will be the same.

I recently saw a photo of Leandra Medine in studded black flip flops and I've been searching Google for a similar pair with no avail. Maybe they're custom or DIY? I might buy a slim black pair of Havaianas and try… if you need more convincing flip flops are still it, look no further than the latest Olsen twin pap shot. Maybe I need the wider Havaianas as well?

As a Salomon devotee, I'm also looking to expand my all black collection and get a lighter colour, specifically these XT-6 pair in grey.

One last frivolous pick, just for fun (though not that frivolous, given the insane discount): this sculptural pair of chocolate Dries Van Noten heels that are less of a shoe, more a work of art. Not a want but a need, really…

CHANEL have released these beautiful brown suede flat slingback shoes from their 2024/25 MÉTIERS D’ART collection and I am in love! You can’t purchase them online, but they are in stock at their new boutique on Market street.

I’m also loving these little CELINE sandal heels — absolutely divine. The Saint Laurent loafers have been on my wishlist for a while, so I’m thinking it's time to jump the gun and actually purchase them. And a very timely, and probably the most needed product, is a pair of wellies. I have always loved Merry Peoples Gumboots, particularly as I’m also in Thredbo quite a bit.
