7 reasons why Rosalía is the beauty icon we’ve been waiting for

We are rabid for Rosalía. Just like the portmanteau Motomami, the musician is known for both her softness and scrappy edge. When it comes to the realm of beauty, let alone fashion it's this feeling that underpins her personal style. Off the back of her second album, and honestly since her first, she's had us salivating for more with every daring beauty look and red carpet moment.

When it comes to beauty, she merges Y2K trends like tooth gems and thin brows with the quintessentially latinx aesthetic of lip liner and claw-like manicures, to the advent of her own unique blueprint. And while one could argue that the clean girl look is the foundation of her beauty philosophy, Rosalía has proved that she's not one to play it safe either. Below, we're rounding up 7 reasons why the musician is serving as our latest beauty inspiration.

Plaits

While most of us haven't weaved our hair into a plait since high school, Rosalía is making a strong case for the hairstyle. On the Barcelona native, the look is playful and slick without ever feeling like she's cosplaying an infant. For us, it's her other beauty signatures, like tooth gems and jagged talons, that balance out the youthfulness of her plaits and pigtails.

Tooth Gems

I am partial to a tooth gem. As someone with a set myself, there's something exciting about a smile that quite literally sparkles. After all, why limit jewellery to your neck or your lobes? As artists most often do, Rosalía has synced up her style with her latest album, and so her own butterfly-patterned tooth gems sell Motomami at just the faintest hint of a smirk. Genius? I'm convinced.

Lined lips and lipstick

If you've got it flaunt it I say, especially as someone with little to no lips. As an ambassador to MAC which has resulted in her own beauty line, namely Viva Glam, the state of Rosalía's mouth and makeup more broadly is just as important as her signature outlandish nail styles. Most of the time she's lined her lips in a brown liner with a neutral gloss on top. Other times you'll catch her with a blurred coloured lip. Both light a fire in our loins.

With the help of prolific nail artists like Juan Alvear and Sojin Oh of Soji Nails, Rosalía holds the title of the best nails in the business. Sure, on days when she's just hanging at home she's said she prefers to keep it simple and natural. But when occasion calls for it, boy does Rosalía deliver. We've been treated to clear jelly styles encrusted with garish costume jewellery, anime-inspired sets and 3D talons that would make the simplest of tasks a matter of life and death.

Fluffy Natural Curls

We love it when Rosalía serves glossy hairstyles slicked back and looking fresh. But we will always root for a queen that embraces her natural locks. The singer's natural soft waves inject any particularly edgy fashion moment with a gentle reprieve of romance.

Skinny Eyebrows

A major reason why we're drawn to Rosalía is that the woman is not afraid to look a little freaky. Cue her penciled on thin eyebrows. In line with the biker sensibility she's leaning into for Motomami, this particular beauty choice feels apt. For those who wish to replicate the look without tweezing off half your brow, try blocking them out with concealer or bleaching them blonde à la RUSSH's Brand and Feature's Editor Ella Jane.

Scarlet Hair

In case you missed the memo, red hair is officially back, baby. While some may opt for more subtle, coppery shades, it's not like Rosalía to hold back. Her particular shade of scarlet is seductive, edgy and in my mind puts her in the category of a femme fatale.
