Reebok debuts its first sustainable running shoe

reebok Forever Floatride GROW

As we place more importance on sustainability than ever, it's fundamental to the fashion industry that the brands we love follow suit. Recently, Reebok debuted its first sustainable shoe which, in an interesting detail, is plant-based. Titled 'Forever Floatride GROW', the new sneaker is a running shoe and an iteration of Reebok’s award-winning 'Forever Floatride Energy 2', and is made of some of the most sustainable natural ingredients with performance front-of-mind.

In terms of construction, the shoes sole is built from sustainability grown castor beans, and boasts the same amount of cushioning that the original Forever Floatride shoe does. The upper is said to be constructed of eucalyptus tree, which is naturally biodegradable sustainably sourced, and a world first for the global brand. Additionally, the natural rubber outsole is sourced from real rubber trees, rather than petroleum-based rubber products commonly used in shoe soles.

As for the Forever Floatride GROW's appearance, the shoe could be seen to seamlessly fit into the wardrobe of many. With a beige outer and khaki detailing, the Floatride GROW is an example of innovation elevated. Blending new technology with style and ease. While the shoe is geared towards high performance in itself, it could be translated well into everyday wear, and is a refreshing option for those who are committed to reducing their footprint through fashion.

“The earth is a runner’s arena, and we have a responsibility to help detox the world for the athletes who run in it,” explains Reebok Brand President, Matt O’Toole. “Our consumers have told us they want more sustainable products, and the running community has been the most vocal and passionate on this issue,” says O’Toole. “We want to help runners perform at their best, while also feeling good about the products they wear.”.
