PFW beauty report SS 17

From subtle to statement, there was something for everyone at Paris’s Spring Summer shows.

Purple haze.

ACNE STUDIOS
Lilac lips made for a bold statement on a bare face.

ALEXANDER MCQUEEN
The ethereal beauty of a sea siren. Favor fell on the hair this season with makeup kept to a bare minimum.

The new accents.

BALENCIAGA
Keep your makeup minimal and leave your accessories to do the talking.

BALMAIN
Eyes were surrounded by smudgy, sultry kohl while hair stayed simple and sleek for Balmain’s SS 17 show.

It's only natural.

CÉLINE
Soft curls and natural waves moved through the Céline woman’s hair.

CHANEL
Alabaster skin with pink lips and peach cheeks. A porcelain effect.

Sweet signature.

CHLOÉ
Season through season the Chloé girl doesn't change her tune. Liner around the eye – black, always. Hair: it’s best to not do a thing.

CHRISTIAN DIOR
A sportier take on femininity as Maria Grazia Chiuri took the reigns. Hair was sleek in a high bun with boxer braids keeping things fresh.

Play dirty.

DRIES VAN NOTEN
A dirt-like mask, streaked across the eyes, put the beauty look at Dries Van Noten well on its way to “losing control ... a little.”

ELLERY
Just a hint. There were no bold statements here, just subtle touches of makeup across the face.

Cherry bomb.

GIAMBATTISTA VALLI
Lady in red. A fire shade of rouge coated the lips at Giambattista Valli for a simple pop of colour.

GIVENCHY BY RICCARDO TISCI
Nature and sensuality ruled the day. Slippery and wet – the hair fell into soft formations.

Bright spark.

HAIDER ACKERMANN
Turn me on with your electric feel. Static and spiked hair was the order of the day at Haider Ackermann.

HERMÈS
Shades of lilac and midnight blue adorned the models’ eyes at Hermès. A subtle splash.

About a girl.

ISABEL MARANT
Marant described her look this season as everyday femininity. Your usual self.

JACQUEMUS
Just as an orange sun shone from the end of the Jacquemus runway, an orange-pink blush gave models a glow of their own.

Into the woods.

JOHN GALLIANO
Pocahontas feathers and animal masks donned the heads of models at this season’s John Galliano show. Leave some time to daydream.

KENZO
I see red, I see red.
Smeared around the eyes and lacquered on the lips. Rouge was the mood of the day.

Reflect on this.

LANVIN
This season the Lanvin woman kept hair long and brushed or sleek and back. Skin was bronzed and dewy while lids were adorned with the faintest hint of sparkle.

LEMAIRE
Just as you are. Keep hair au naturel with only a hint of mascara on the upper lashes.

A sole statement.

LOEWE
This season focus was on the brows. Thick, dark and bold.

LOUIS VUITTON
Glamour met drama on the Louis Vuitton runway. Bold colour and lines came together for a look felt like the future by way of the 80s.

Outer reaches.

MAISON MARGIELA
No time for minimalism. Choose a cap to cover the scalp or a mix of glitter and fluoro for the face.

MIU MIU
A retro summer fantasy. Floral swim caps and peach blush. Come on down to the water.

Streamlined.

MUGLER
Eyes were encircled in black liner and hair was sleek on the crown of the head and flowing through the lengths.

OFF-WHITE
A toupee of sorts covered the side of models’ heads at this season’s Off-White show. Paired with a deep part this is a look yet to be elected.

Sweet fantasy.

ROCHAS
Rollers in the fringe and a thin stripe of black through the brows. Whimsical and bold.

SAINT LAURENT
Sex appeal met understatement at Anthony Vaccarello’s debut show for Saint Laurent. Skin shone with a light tan, brows were strong and defined and hair was mixed and matched to the model.

Spooky mood.

VERONIQUE BRANQUINHO
Cracked and creased. Lips bled with colour in thin lines across the mouth.

VALENTINO
Soft curls framed the face in this ode to A Garden of Earthly Delights.

Natural woman.

STELLA MCCARTNEY
Fresh faces all round for Stella McCartney. A simple embodiment of femininity.
