Damp, Dripping and Saturated: The Sound of an Oasis

Oasis playlist

Follow your inner moonlight; don't hide the madness.” ― Allen Ginsberg

As the heat and humidity begins to creep up on us and the days get longer, and the nights get stickier, we find our Oasis. Thirst quenching, psychedelic and ambient; drink in the sounds that nourish the mind, water the soul and cleanse the skin of dust and sweat. This is music to wander to and to be found with.

Yosi Horikawa’s bubbles bust as we plunge into the water of Yi Nantiro’s oasis - it is all sound, all environment as the throat is too dry and the feeling too rich for words. We are bound by Caterina Barbieri’s gravity and united by The Eternal of Holly Herndon. We can lie under Tuxedo Moon and absorb their East / Jinx / … / Music and hear the psychedelic history of Henry McCullough, because in 1966 ‘even then, he was fuckin’ amazing’.

We can watch the skies turn pink and purple with Amon Duul and Cluster, as we wait for the light of Eden Ahbez’s full moon to refract and caress the water, lit by evening stars from Fripp and Eno. We are living again in our oasis, growing and being reborn like Suzanne Ciani’s Venus. The oasis has given us ‘deep trip within’ along Celestial Railroads.

Emerging replenished from our saturated oasis, we find the garden populated by David Sylvian’s brilliant trees and punctuated by Anita Lane’s ‘a thousand flower-ettes in the sky.’ It is Roedelius’ garden, singing with the birds that craved the rebirth of the water and flourishing in Linda Smith’s spring. The Oasis is what we needed and we take a part of it away with us.
