CHANEL girl Margot Robbie shows us how to do a bold lip after dark

There's something about a bold lip that just feels right in the nighttime.

It's a force Margot Robbie believes in, as seen in the latest campaign for the CHANEL Rouge Allure Velvet Nuit Blanche lipstick (her first for the makeup metier as a global ambassador).

The iconic formula has just been launched in eight new shades, numbered and named in line with the trajectory of a night out. The range starts with 00:00, a bright sienna red to indicate midnight, the timestamp at which all good evenings really begin. It moves through with a new shade every hour (burnt orange, deep mauve, electric fuchsia, warm brown) before wrapping up post dawn (07:00, to be exact) with a rosy shade of pink. Fresh, innocent, a little unassuming.

The Rouge Allure Velvet Nuit formula is rich, matte and luxurious to wear . The colour payoff is opaque, but inclusions of shea butter and jojoba as well as super-fine colour pigments ensure the finish is luminous and comfortable (not matte or drying). It can be applied directly from the bullet, paired with a complimentary liner, or patted onto the lips for a soft-focus effect.

The packaging has also undergone a sleek transformation, redesigned by the Makeup Creative Studio in a fresh shade of white with black trim. Bonus: much easier to locate in your handbag in a low light setting.

Robbie's shade of choice is unsurprisingly red, a colour she refers to as vibrant, passionate... a statement (she speaks the truth). While the hue works in most makeup situations, we're taking cues from the global ambassador, pairing it with velvet nude skin, bare lashes, soft brows and a whisper of blush.

The limited edition CHANEL Rouge Allure Velvet Nuit Blanche lipstick will be available via chanel.com/au, as well as boutiques and select department stores from the February 29, 2024.
