The intersection of fashion and tech is more like a spaghetti junction interpass – a hodgepodge of wearable tech and futuristic materials (like Coperni's spray-on dress or Stella McCartney's mushroom leather bags) that often feel like they aren't for the every-day person. But Maison Margiela have just dropped a fashion-tech collaboration straight from our dreams – an uber-ergonomic Galaxy Z Flip 5 phone in collaboration with Samsung.
"This second collaboration between the two brands brings together fashion and technology by approaching a high-tech device in a way similar to the construction of a haute couture garment," Stephanie Choi, the EVP at Samsung Electronics said. "Through this collaboration, we want consumers to discover their own identity and express it without limitation."
What does the Maison Margiela x Samsung phone look like?
The phone, designed for users "desiring freshness and unconventionality", features the Galaxy Flip's foldable screen – allowing it to fit inside all of your tiniest designer handbags. (Maybe not your Le Chiquito, but you get the point.)
Also unique to this special edition phone is the rear glass design, which showcases the inner structure of a Maison Margiela jacket.
Under the watchful eye of the Maison's creative director John Galliano, the new flip phone feels like an extension of Margiela's recent 'digital nomads' collection – one that saw models adorned in phones, iPads strapped to ankles and wrists.
The collab also comes fresh off the heels of Samsung's 2022 collaboration with the House, giving its Galaxy Z Flip 4 a minimalist, Maison Margiela makeover.
