When it comes to saving our planet we know that every little bit counts. Whether it's cutting out cling wrap and plastic packaging, walking to work in the morning instead of driving, or taking the time to shop pre-loved fashion pieces, we all have our ways of trying to help. Our personal favourite? Making a conscious effort to fill our wardrobes with ethical and sustainable clothing labels - those working that little bit harder to make a difference. Madre natura is one such brand.

 

The madre natura brand:

Meaning “mother nature” in Italian, madre natura was created in 2020 by designer and sustainability advocate Jackie Galleghan. Her vision? To create sustainable yet luxurious everyday pieces. The kind that are at once modern yet nostalgic, with a point of view that is also subtly androgynous.

So what makes madre natura pieces so unique? Well, for starters they are all designed and made ethically in Sydney by a small team which champions the use of deadstock, organic materials and circular processes. That means that all of madre natura’s designs are made using deadstock and surplus fabrics or completely renewable material such as organic cotton.

What's even more, each piece comes with a lifetime mending promise to encourage a slower, more conscious approach to consumption. At the end of the life cycle, madre natura offers a complimentary ‘afterlife’ program, working with the Australian Textile Recycling Factory to prevent clothing from ending up in landfill.

By doing so, the label is not only creating classic, everyday pieces that are well-made and designed to last, it is also seeking to fundamentally shift the consumer mindset in the way that we think about clothing. It's garments are something to love, cherish, care for, mend and wear for as long as possible. They can then be recycled and repurposed once again to minimise environmental impact.
