Experimenting with convention and the traditional with the new Louis Vuitton x Fornasetti exclusive capsule collection

From Balenciaga to Louis Vuitton - Nicolas Ghesquière has always been a creative director to watch. Having held his head high behind the reigns to Louis Vuitton since 2013, we have seen house icons change, shift and transform under the lens and precision of his delicate eye. Now, in celebration of Louis Vuitton's Women’s Fall Winter Collection, the Maison presents its exclusive capsule collection in partnership with the Italians, the illustrative and lucrative Fornasetti atelier.

Multifaceted, experiential but still remaining true to the traditional, the collaboration sees to have intertwined Fornasetti's distinct illustrative signatures with Ghesquière's contemporary vision for Louis Vuitton womenswear. Silk printed blouses, mini tunic dresses paired with printed silk scarves and statuesque handbags and motifed accessories; the collaboration seeked to forge forward thinking combinations in design, illustrations, and in traditional techniques such as jacquard and embroidery.

A press release states "in all its facets, the Louis Vuitton x Fornasetti collaboration embodies the two Houses’ shared sense of experimental traditionalism: an effective blend of Louis Vuitton’s forward-looking creativity and craft and Fornasetti’s magical and visionary depiction of the world... These clothes and accessories use a rich combination of colours, textures and traditional, cutting-edge techniques including jacquard, embroidery and laser printing, intertwining Fornasetti’s exquisitely illustrated world with Nicolas Ghesquière’s strikingly contemporary design."

The Italian design atelier founded in the 1940s by Piero Fornasetti has quickly become a household name in the world of design, having become known for its distinctive and unconventional illustrations, homewares and visionaries in furniture. Now, with the two houses coming into collaboration in sharing its similar taste and views, the collection delivers us nothing short of strikingly bold printed jerseys, oversized jackets and metallic leather bags all printed and stamped in signature Fornasetti motifs such as buildings, portraits, keys and locks.

The Louis Vuitton x Fornasetti Capsule Collection will become available in stores worldwide this August 2021, with more information and updates available on louisvuitton.com.
