Jake Shane is taking over the world – or our screens, at least. The comedian and podcast host has officially been given the green light to create and star in a Hulu comedy project based on his own life. He's the latest of our favourite young comedians to translate their real-life experiences into something for television – from Benito Skinner's Overcompensating, to Rachel Sennott's newly-releasedI Love LA. So, what would a show about our favourite Therapuss look like? Here's what we know.
Who is involved?
The project is in very good hands with Hacks writer Genevieve Aniello on board to executive produce and write the pilot. Of course, Shane is no stranger to the Hacks universe, having guest starred on the most recent season. Paul Briganti, best known for Saturday Night Live, will executive produce, while the duo joined forces with Shane himself to write the original story.
As for more on-camera talent, so far only Shane is confirmed. But given he's hosted just about every celebrity on his hit podcast, we're sure there'll be some pretty stellar celebrity cameos.
What is it about?
According to reports, Shane will play a version of himself, and wil lbe joined by “his best friends as they navigate the chaotic new world of online fame, the strain it puts on their friendships, and the tension their presence causes in their suburban neighbourhood.”
If you're familiar with Shane's online presence, you'll know this sounds pretty true to his real life. Shane's friendship group – Julia Mervis, Payton Purther, and Bretty Chody – are all regular fixtures on his TikTok, and have each cultivated their own loyal online followings.
When will it come out?
There's no word yet on a release date. So far, all Shane has said about the project has come via Instagram, where he wrote: "a dream come true with the team of my dreams…thank you."
We'll keep you updated as we know more.
