Harry Styles’ favourite designer, Harris Reed, releases gender fluid collection with MAC Cosmetics

Harris Reed MAC collection

If the name Harris Reed rings a familiar bell, it may be in thanks to your favourite celebrities – including our beloved Harry Styles – making the London-based designer's pieces a red carpet mainstay. Now, the fashion design wunderkind is officially branching out into the world of beauty, with makeup giant MAC Cosmetics enlisting their assistance in launching its very first gender fluid collection.

Inspired by 70s glam rock icons David Bowie and Mick Jagger, Reed and MAC have unveiled a collection that features a range of products that celebrate both bold metallics and soft pastels. The limited-edition collaboration includes a nine-pan eyeshadow palette featuring both matte and shimmer hues, a three-pan lip palette featuring shades in plum, peach and coral, a two-pan cream colour base palette, and a metallic bronze eye kohl for the finishing touches.

The millennial-pink meets Renaissance-inspired packaging is a beauty shelf dream, feeding into Reed's work which they describe as "Romanticism Gone Nonbinary."

"Over two years in the making... hand designing, creating, developing, loving, traveling, crying, laughing, collaborating and pinching myself everyday along the way, I unveil one of my proudest achievements..." Reed shared in an Instagram post.

"I give you fluid freedom, utter self expression, and the tools you need in your tool box... If people take anything away from this collection, I’d like it to be that you can use these products to be exactly who you are."

The past year has been one of significance for Reed, the 24-year-old designer recently graduating from London's prestigious Central Saint Martins. Although the collection with MAC Cosmetics marks their first standalone campaign, this isn't the first time Harris Reed has dabbled in the world of beauty. A muse of luxury fashion house Gucci, Reed modelled in the brand's first gender-neutral fragrance campaign, in addition to also appearing on the house's runway shows.

The tactility of the collection reinforces Reed's own approach to beauty; one that encourages us all to shift our traditional understanding of how we view and apply certain products.

"There are no brushes or tubes, it is all about using your fingers and putting lipstick on your eyes or cheeks, eyeshadow in your hairline, and using highlighter as body shimmer," they continued.

"Have fun with being who you are and making your own rules of beauty, because everything else is thrown out the window."

The MAC x Harris Reed collection is available to shop online now at MAC Cosmetics.
