Throughout history, Gucci's relationship with its own logo has morphed and changed as it welcomes new creative visions for the House. There have been endless iterations of the luxury Italian Brand's emblem, but no stamp feels quite as iconic as the House's Horsebit. Introduced in 1955, the equestrian-adjacent hardware has enjoyed an enduring place in Gucci's identity, and to celebrate the iconic piece, which features frequently upon the House's signature loafers and handbags, Gucci has released a new 1955 Horsebit campaign.
The campaign features Halle Bailey, Hanni, and Julia Garner as the faces of the imagery, which is lensed by Mert and Marcus, and captures each talent's personas, framing them against bright backdrops as they embody the Horsebit 1955 as their own. The handbag is highlighted through their infectious energy, mirrored in the timeless spirit of the handbag, which still carries the same – if not slightly updated – double ring and bar as the first Horsebit which was introduced on a Gucci loafer 70 years ago.
The House has always had a strong link to the equestrian world, with Gucci's relationship to horse riding stemming from their clientele's interests. This connection is now immortalised within the ‘mythology’ of Gucci, through the presence of several elements, including the Horsebit. Throughout the past years, Gucci has delved further into the archives and reimagined some of the Brand's most beloved pieces, like the Gucci Jackie 1961 and the reintroduction of the interlocking GG logo from Tom Ford's era.
The Horsebit 1955 remains as one of Gucci's signature handbag offerings, bridging the eras to tell a story of strength and enduring nature, which is reflected in the exceptional materials and craftsmanship that the Brand is built upon. The offering includes various silhouettes from the original rectangular top-flap shoulder bag with an adjustable strap to a dome-shaped top-handle silhouette.
