Grimes fronts Dion Lee’s Spring Summer campaign

Grimes Dion Lee

We never saw Dion Lee's Spring Summer 2021 collection last September, but we did see Fall Winter 2022 in February, and if his dystopian, futuristic Fall offering was anything to go off, Grimes makes a perfect muse. Existing in a visual space between ethereal album art and a collection campaign, Grimes stars in the Spring Summer 2022 Dion Lee campaign.

Against an icy, futuristic backdrop, the artist perches on cyber-human architecture, nodding to fantasy realms with sci-fi heroines in classic Grimes fashion as she explores the extended world of her upcoming album, Book I, through Lee's SS22 collection.

Lensed by Bryan Huynh in collaboration with art director Henry Thomas and CGI artist Rodolfo Hernande, the campaign, which was shot in Grimes' home in Austin, Texas, encapsulates the camp, futuristic energy Lee has been exploring in his most recent collections. Fused with Grimes infamous aesthetic, a convergence of her most notable looks came to life, with makeup to match that she did on herself. There are white and red netted maxi skirts, paired with lug-sole combat boots and flared-sleeve crop tops with boned torsos; in one image, Grimes holds a sword over her shoulder, her long, icy hair falls over a white lace set. In another, she wears a structured white jacket with a sheer, lace up blouse layered underneath. It wouldn't be a Dion Lee campaign without ample skin, and the last image of the campaign solidifies the sentiment, where Grimes stands with her bare body turned away from the lens, a pearlescent beaded top the only coverage.

Through sculptural tailoring, silicone wave lace, and lattice netting, the collection taps into silhouettes of the time while pushing forward into the future and giving over to fantasy. Alongside the release of the campaign, the Dion Lee Spring Summer 2022 collection is now available to purchase in store and online at the Dion Lee website.
