Artist Gabrielle Penfold on hydration, SPF and the importance of antioxidants

Artist Gabrielle Penfold is a free spirit and lover of natural beauty.

When we picked her brains for her beauty and wellness routine, we found a back to basics approach. For Gabrielle, it's the little things that make a big difference. Her advice for health and beauty? Up your hydration, remember your SPF, drink collagen and add loads of antioxidants with products like Vida Glow Anti-G-Ox.

What is your morning beauty routine?

Hydration is key! I’m so thirsty when I wake up, I try and have loads of water - I will make all sorts of potions depending on how I’m feeling. Hot lemon water and a sachet of Vida Glow Anti-G-Ox are essentials. Anti-G-Ox helps reduce free-radical damage from the Sun. I think of it like something that works in tandem with my sunscreen.

I love also keeping my skin hydrated, feeding it B and C serum. I have also just started using the Emma Lewisham pigmentation correcting serum and SPF. They both feel great on the face.

Through the day, I massage my face with a gua sha, it's really helped with my sinus issues.

What is your night beauty routine?

Cleansing twice has been a game changer. Some nights I might treat my skin to MZ Skin night recovery mask, it feels really nourishing. I also really notice a difference when I use a retinol cream.

Describe what you do for a living? What does a typical day look like for you?

I’m an artist, so I generally spend long days in the studio. I try and have a little outing each day. This might be to my framer or canvas maker. I don’t really have a routine, but I try to ensure I’m filling my day with purpose, creativity and knowledge.

What is the supermarket/ drug store/ chemist beauty product(s) that you use and love?

I bought a wonderful cleanser from Bangalow Pharmacy, It’s a French pharmacy brand called Embryolisse. It’s not expensive and it lasts for ages.

What is your main form of beauty body maintenance? What products do you use on your body?

I have very dry skin, so I love using body oils and cremes. The Ayu pitta body oil and Hinoki body cream from Le Labo are favourites. In summer I can’t go past coconut oil.

How do you keep fit/ healthy? Does exercise form a large part of your routine?

I’m not very loyal to any form of exercise, but I will try and move in someway everyday. Walking, yoga and pilates are big favourites. My girlfriend Emma and I have also just started swimming laps this winter… It’s the best!

I try to eat foods with a tonne of antioxidants to stay healthy. But my eating is not always perfect, so I do rely on Vida Glow Anti-G-Ox to help bridge the gap.

What cosmetic procedures/ professional treatments do you have as part of your beauty routine?

Surprisingly painting can be harsh on the body. I get really bad neck and back pain. I now see a remedial massage therapist called Jan Holy. He can get any knot out.

What do you do when your body needs to recover?

A little break from eating out and drinking always does the trick! Also making sure I’m keeping up fluids. I also like nourishing my skin from within when I need it most. Vida Glow Collagen Elixir is perfect for those occasions.

You’re tired/ hungover/ rundown: what is your beauty hack?

Loads of water, a swim, Vida Glow Collagen Elixir and Anti-G-Ox. The curcumin and turmeric mix helps digestion and helps your liver too. It's a great pick-me-up. Also, a big healthy feed never goes astray.

What is the one non-negotiable in your beauty routine?

My Gua Sha, Hydration and a dash of sun.

What is the best advice on beauty you’ve received?

Use SPF everyday!

What is the one product you can’t live without?

The Face Finishing Moisturiser from Perricone MD. I have been using it from six years now… it’s fantastic.
