Get to know Gabbriette Bechtel, model, musician and TikTok cooking icon

If you're not as chronically online as the rest of us, you may be wondering who Gabbriette Bechtel is this week, after she was spotted by the side of The 1975's lead singer Matty Healy at New York Fashion Week. But for those of us who live in the depths of niche cooking TikToks, or who've had their eye on the latest campaigns from brands like Kiko Kostadinov x Heaven by Marc Jacobs or Isamaya Beauty, you'll know exactly who the Californian model, musician, style icon and content creator is.

At just 26 years old, she's already lived many lives – as a musician, as a model, as a social media influencer and online chef – but she's now just starting to turn heads with her Gothic good looks, and bad-girl-next-door charm.

Here's everything you need to know about Gabbriette Bechtel, and a run-down on some of her best style moments.

On her upbringing...

Bechtel was born in Orange County, California to a Mexican mother and German father on 28 July 1997 (she's unsurprisingly a Leo). At just 26 years old, she's become something of an IYKYK social media influencer with 562k Instagram followers, 323.1K TikTok followers.

On her band...

Bechtel previously fronted an indie alt-rock quad called Nasty Cherry, alongside drummer Debbie Knox-Hewson, guitarist Chloe Chaidez, and bassist Georgia Somary. The band was formed and mentored by pop darling Charli XCX, who apparently recruited Bechtel for the band before she'd even heard her sing: “I was just kind of like, ‘Look, even if you can’t sing you’re a fucking rockstar… and you’re in.’”

The group quietly split in 2021.

On her beauty routine...

Bechtel has a pretty recognisable look – her plucked, pencilled-on brows, and dark grunge-inspired makeup reflect the revival of indie sleaze in pop culture's lexicon.

The model has said in previous interviews that she's pretty pared back when it comes to her skincare routine, but loves brands like Osea, Youth to the People, Belif and Supergoop! She's a bit of a sunscreen stickler, but considered smoking cigarettes her beauty vice.

She's recently been featured in campaigns for Hailey Bieber's Rhode Beauty, and Isamaya Ffrench's Isamaya Beauty.

On her style...

Her 90s Goth-girl aesthetic has made her relatively well-known in fashion circles; the poster child for a kind of understated edgy aesthetic that feels worlds apart from the 'clean girl' uniform that seems to have become all-too ubiquitous these days. We decided to deep dive into the fashion archives of Gabbriette to bring you some of her best style moments from over the years.
