Elizabeth Olsen is facing the ultimate dilemma in Eternity, the new romantic comedy courtesy of A24. The premise is simple: her character, Joan, is dead, and now she has one week in the afterlife to decide where she’ll spend eternity — and who she'll spend it with. Here's what you need to know.
The newest trailer has us absolutely hooked already
The newly-released Eternity trailer wastes no time laying out the stakes: soon after dying, Joan is reunited with both of her dead husbands — Larry (Miles Teller), her most recent partner, and Luke (Callum Turner), her first love. And she has one week to decide where she’ll spend eternity. As Joan puts it: “You died. I died. I’ve just been reunited with both of my dead husbands, and I have to pick where to spend eternity.” You can watch the trailer in full here:
Callum Turner and Miles Teller play the two husbands in question
Elizabeth Olsen is leading the charge as Joan, the woman at the centre of the dilemma. And making Joan's choose all the more impossible is some of the most impeccable casting in recent history: Miles Teller and Callum Turner. Teller is fresh from Apple TV+’s The Gorge and gearing up for a role in the forthcoming Michael Jackson biopic, while Turner (newly engaged to Dua Lipa), most recently starred in Apple TV+’s Masters of the Air. And rounding out the ensemble cast is John Early, Olga Merediz, and Oscar winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph.
Behind the scenes, Eternity is directed by David Freyne, who also co-wrote the script with Pat Cunnane.
When will it be released?
Following its international premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, Eternity will be released in Australian cinemas by A24 on Thursday 4 December 2025.
