Photographer Dave Benett’s 90s fashion archive is our weekend style inspiration

Dave Benett 90s fashion weekend style

Remember getting 'dressed'? Not pulling on track pants and trainers to get a WFH coffee. But getting dressed in a way that could mean putting on heels, if you wanted to. Lipstick, if you wanted to. This year has me at home a lot, for sure. But even in times that do require me to go 'out' (to, say, a four person dinner party) I don't remember what to do. I have lost my groove, you might say.

A run through my Instagram feed tells me many others are still going the loungewear route too. (Aside from those holidaying in Europe, which is in no way relatable.)

Is getting dressed up important right now? Not at all. But if you're going to do it anyway you may as well feel good; exercise your creative expression. So - if you want to - where to find inspiration? Or just scroll someplace different? Let me propose you do it in the past. In particular Dave Benett's instagram account.

Celebrity photographer Dave Benett has the ultimate 90s style archive due to apparently being invited to every party in London that decade. With Vivienne Westwood and Tracey Emin and Naomi Campbell, and Jude Law. It was a time when celebrities still took candid photos at parties with glasses of champagne in their hands. (And cigarettes, but we don't condone that.)

It was a time when people went to parties.

When we interviewed Bennett for the 'Nightcall' issue, he told us, "I was lucky that I happened to be there when the British supermodels were taking over the world."

The 90s styles we're enjoying over on @davebenett? this iconic heel and mini look (sleeves to stay warm) on Naomi and Kate; a patchwork couple look for cool nights by Kylie Minogue and Lenny Kravitz (yes, they were together in '91); and themed dressing via Kate, again, and Anita Pallenberg. An entertaining option for casual drinks at your friend's place. Or, you know, a virtual/IRL date night at home. If not now, when?
