It's here. The latest Converse collaboration that has everyone talking. The limited edition collaboration with Rick Owens' brand DRKSHDW has materialised and it's every bit as unique and haunting as we expected.

 

Release date and details

Before we get into the nitty gritty, diehard fans will want to mark the release date in their calendars. Sneakerheads in Australia and also those in later timezones in the USA will be happy to know the collection has a global release date of July 27. For US shoppers, the sneakers will drop at 10am EDT - but no official time has been listed for other countries. So best just to keep you eyes on the converse website or sign up for the text notifications for when they go on sale.

The Australian pricing has these at $180 AU, significantly more expensive than your average pair of converse but not dissimilar to the pricing on past collaborations like the recent Space Jam collection.

We got our first sneak peek at these unique shoes back in January at the Rick Owens Fall/Winter 2021 show in Venice. It was here that the reimagined the TURBODRK Chuck 70 debuted. Available in high and low top and black or white iterations, the designs echo the neo-punk aesthetics that cult brand DRKSHDW is so known for. An exaggerated and squared-off toe plus platformed sole, breathe Rick Owens' innovative energy in this timeless design. Further building on the catch cry of the collection, “distorting the ubiquitous”, the prominent tongue of the shoe finishes off a design that was destined to become a collectable before it even hit shelves.

 

 

Rick Owens has lent his genius to more than one collaboration in 2021. His work with Birkenstocks became a cult success. Naturally, so did his collection with Dr Martens, cementing him as the reigning king of neo-punk fashion and translating the obscure.
