No, this is in fact not a drill. Beyoncé has announced that she is finally going to bless us with new music and naturally, the internet has gone into a collective spiral.
We first got wind of potential new music back in May; courtesy of an audio clip that was shared from the Destiny's Child group chat. The fact that they still have a group chat after all these years is amazing in itself, but now is not the time for that discussion... In the audio, Beyoncé can be heard saying that she's “cooking some music”, but overnight, she gave us all the confirmation we desperately needed.
Continuing, she shared, “I’ve been in the studio for a year and a half. Sometimes it takes a year for me to personally search through thousands of sounds to find just the right kick or snare. One chorus can have up to 200 stacked harmonies."
As for what we can expect from the upcoming album, Beyoncé was characteristically cautious about how much she shared, simply explaining that “all the isolation and injustice over the past year” has pushed her to start creating again.
“I think we are all ready to escape, travel, love, and laugh again. I feel a renaissance emerging, and I want to be part of nurturing that escape in any way possible."
Aside from a few cameos and drop-ins here and there, (who could forget the Savage Remix?) this bout of new music will be the first, full, solo project since Beyoncé dropped Black is King. The visual album, which essentially broke the internet was written, directed, and produced by the artist herself.
If Lemonade and Black is King were anything to go by, Beyoncé will not be leaving anything behind when this new album finally drops. This might finally be the happy ending to 2021 we were all hoping for. Stay tuned for more details to come.
