Denim is the foundation of our wardrobes – although our approach is very different season to season. Where in winter we might opt for trucker jackets, selvedge denim, a Canadian tuxedo, even, in summer less is invariably more. We're hunting down freedom of movement, practicality, pieces that can withstand sun, sand and sea. They also must be comfy – it's no fun picking out wedgies every half hour.
So what denim is on the menu this summer? The last few summers, we've moved away from Daisy Duke shorts and embraced Bermuda cut offs instead. Wear them low and baggy, they're the peak of comfort – just ask look to your dad's in the 90s as evidence.
Right now, we have a soft spot for mini skirts. We love the vintage feel of the below print from Diesel, which reminds us of that cult Desigual muscle tank, while Y/Project and Dion Lee offer a point of difference. For those who don't enjoy the risk of bending over, this skirt obsession extends to midi and maxi hemlines as well. Pair them with your favourite adidas sneakers and off you trot.
For something less edgelord, more chic, we've included this indigo denim column dress from Christopher Esber – we already foresee lots of fidgeting with those clasps. Elsewhere, you'll encounter a denim bustier from Miaou, the perfect denim party dress from Acne Studios, and further along, our holy grail jeans from mfpen's new women's line.
Below, find a selection of all the denim pieces we'll be wearing this summer.
