Our first look at Paul Mescal, Barry Keoghan, Harris Dickinson and Joseph Quinn as the Beatles

Keep reading for everything we know about what will surely become one of the biggest film projects of this decade.

First look images just dropped

We officially have a first-look at our leading quad of actors in costume thanks to Sony Pictures UK, who dropped postcards to the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, where they were hidden around campus for students to find. Luckily, students who found them posted their findings to the internet, so we can all be blessed with their uncanny likeness.

Who is in the cast?

The iconic band will be brought to life by Joseph Quinn, Paul Mescal, Harris Dickinson, and Barry Keoghan.

But while plenty of attention has been paid to which male actors would land a role in the upcoming Beatles biopic, we've also had confirmation on who will be playing the iconic men and women at the centre of the story. So far, we have casted:

  • Mia McKenna-Bruce as Maureen (Cox) Starkey
  • Saoirse Ronan as Linda (Eastman) McCartney
  • Anna Sawai as Yoko Ono
  • Aimee Lou Wood as Pattie Boyd.

Supporting cast includes David Morrissey, Leanne Best, James Norton, Harry Lloyd, Bobby Schofield, Daniel Hoffmann-Gill, Arthur Darvill, and Adam Pally.

The confirmation of George, Paul, John and Ringo's actors comes as rumours reached a boiling point late last year. In December, 2024, Deadline reported that Gladiator II actor Quinn had been cast as George Harrison, after he was spotted with a guitar in tow — perhaps fine-tuning his musical skills for the role.

Weeks earlier, Ridley Scott seemingly confirmed that Paul Mescal was, indeed, signed on to the project.

Speaking to fellow filmmaker Christopher Nolan, Ridley was asked if he would cast Paul in his upcoming movie, The Dog Stars. “Yes. Maybe. Paul is actually stacked up, doing the Beatles next. So I may have to let him go,” he revealed. It's not entirely surprising: after all, the actor did have a guitar with him when he arrived in Sydney for the Gladiator II premiere just last month.

This very exciting update comes just weeks after The Beatles' own Ringo Starr also seemingly confirmed that Barry Keoghan has also officially been cast.

“I think it’s great. I believe he’s somewhere taking drum lessons, and I hope not too many," Starr told Entertainment Tonight when quizzed about the film.

What are the films about?

According to Deadline, the project is set to be helmed by Sam Mendes, whose vision is to make four separate, but interconnected theatrical films — one from the point of view of each member of the band.

Of course, Mendes, who already has plenty of blockbusters under his belt – from Bond films to cult classics like American Beauty and Cabaret. The films are slated as biopics, so we're thinking we'll get a full run down on each band members' life – from the manic highs to the tragic lows. We've already gotten plenty of documentaries about The Beatles – including Peter Jackson's Get Back only a few years ago – so we're excited to see a more intimate look at the controversies and myths that have shrouded the band for decades. And will the surviving band members give the films their blessing?

When will the four films be released?

The four-film cinematic event will hit theatres in April 2028.
