Art Month begins – Sydney’s arts festival returns creative spaces in March

Taking over your favourite spaces and galleries, the festival that is Art Month returns to Sydney. The doors to some of the city's best and cult spaces open, inviting all of us to come and engage with the arts.

Arts and creative industries are key to the fabric of our society and instrumental in social recovery, so Art Month is free to anyone that wants their cultural fix. Everyone is invited to experience exhibitions, studio visits, art parties, openings, walks, workshops and more.

Running from March 4 until March 28, the Art Month calendar is a full one. We'll see a myriad of events and exhibitions lighting up the city. Some of the event highlights include:

  • Art at Night - The festival will fire up after dark with its ever-popular flagship ‘Art at Night’ events. This includes events in Parramatta, Green Square, Hyde Park, East Sydney, Chippendale, Redfern, Paddington and Woollahra
  • Art+Collectors - a signature exhibition. Included events in Parramatta and Paddington.
  • Art+Food. Includes events at Galerie pompom and Paramount House Hotel.
  • Art+Sustainability at the Artereal Gallery.
  • Meet the Artists at Gallery Lane Cove, Artspace and Sydney College of the Arts.

You can find the full schedule and all the relevant dates at the Art Month website.

The program is organised in conjunction with a selection of private and public spaces and created in consultation with artists, philanthropists, collectors, gallerists and the wider creative community. Helping artists through sales and exposure, this community festival is integral to supporting and championing the creatives that shape our city’s identity and ecosystem.

Emma O’Neill, Art Month Sydney Festival Director, says, “Art Month Sydney comes at the perfect time to tempt Sydney-siders back into galleries, encouraging the wider community to reconnect with the city’s creative industries. With a dynamic new group of artists and curators lending their expertise and more reasons than ever to support the arts, we are proud to be bringing the festival into the new decade and celebrating the city’s vibrant art scene at this pivotal moment.”

Jarrod Rawlins, Art Month Sydney Board Member and Senior Curator at Mona, Museum of Old and New Art, says: “After a year at home, loving all things digital, it will be exciting to get back into the galleries. Each artist and organisation involved in the 2021 Art Month Sydney is working hard to create so many reasons to show up, spend up and offer their support. The art market seems as optimistic and dynamic as any other time I’ve known, and I’m looking forward to getting out and exploring what Sydney has on offer. It’s been a while.”

Art Month Sydney is a not-for-profit event designed to encourage community engagement with arts and culture. The program hopes promote thoughtful discussion and exploration through the arts.
