What is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms about?
Before the throne was lost to war and before dragons returned to the skies, there was a different kind of tale. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the next instalment in HBO’s ever-expanding Game of Thrones universe, draws from George R.R. Martin’s beloved Tales of Dunk and Egg.
Set 100 years before Game of Thrones and a 100 years after the fiery events of House of the Dragon, the series follows Ser Duncan (Dunk) the Tall a soft-spoken hedge knight. By his side is Egg, a young squire whose true identity is hidden beneath his bald scalp and quick wit, to reveal his true identity, that he is Aegon Targaryen, royal blood line.
The Targaryens still sit on the iron throne, and the last dragon is just barely within living memory. But A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms isn’t about power plays in palaces, it’s about the lives that unfold far from the capital. Wandering knights, back-alley duels, quiet acts of courage and the subtle politics of survival in a realm that reveres strength but rarely rewards kindness.
Who will appear in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms?
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms boasts a strong cast led by Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and the young Dexter Sol Ansell as his witty squire, Egg. Joining them is Finn Bennett as Prince Aerion Targaryen, Bertie Carvel as Prince Baelor "Breakspear" Targaryen, and Sam Spruell as Prince Maekar Targaryen, Egg’s stern father. Tanzyn Crawford plays Tanselle, a Dornish puppeteer who crosses paths with the duo, while Daniel Ings appears as Ser Lyonel Baratheon, heir to House Baratheon.
With a mix of rising talent and seasoned performers, we can expect the series to bring a fresh yet faithful perspective to George R.R. Martin’s beloved prequel tale.
