With the Oscars already behind us, it feels like the longest time ago that we saw this season's shows go by, along with all the trends that formed along the way. We've pulled together all the trends we've noticed that we'll be sure to see on our For You Pages and not to mention real life. Now that we've seen the shows from New York, London, Milan and Paris, we've got the comprehensive guide to the best of the Fall Winter 2023 runway to spark your memory, before the colder months roll around. Without beating around the bush, here are all the trends for fashion week to look out for in 2023.
Cinched and tailored
It's time to take things in a notch with this direction. We've seen the oversized blazer domination reign for a time now to tuck everything in at the waist. As Tory Burch demonstrates, the rest of the piece remains oversized, except the waist which has been tailored to a T. Another approach would be going down the belt route, as demonstrated by Chloë Sevigny at Proenza Schouler. Case in point for the cinched-in style.
Sheer and chic
We saw a lot of skin this fashion month, whether that be in the form of classic lace or romantic and black mesh in gothic silhouettes from designers like Rodarte, Jason Wu and Pat Bo. Lace and ruffles soften the edges of these looks infusing them with a coquettish flare. You can see how these sheer looks could easily be worn over bodysuits or underwear which adds an interest level to the textures.
Off the shoulder
Many shoulders poked out of dresses and shirts as the models came down the runway. Everyone loves a shoulder including Tory Burch, Fendi and Ulla Johnson. We're sure to see more of these sorts of cuts as the year rolls on.
Capes
This trend is definitely one for those who have an affinity with the dramatic. These capes are gothic with black lace, velvet or sequins. While these capes were styled as evening wear at Rodarte and Michael Kors, dressing them down for the day, who knows they won't extend to the next day for a chic layer over jeans and flats?
Rosettes
Rosette's and floral appliqué detailing has been spreading like an overgrown rose bush from the runway to the front row. We saw them sprouting through a lot throughout the shows, with Carolina Herrera, Christian Siriano and Sandy Liang adding these details to their runway collections.
A splash of pastel
Unlike the darker, more gothic sheer looks we've seen, there is a branch of sheerness that feels a little more fun and frisky. We've seen designers like Fendi and Coach use playful colours in slip dresses and layered sets. Sometimes ruffled, sometimes sleek, this trend is one for the long-haul.
No pants
Is skirt off sick? It certainly seems skirt has caught something this season, with a slew of designers sending skirtless models down the runway. We saw the sans-pant look last season on the Bottega Veneta runway but it seems as though they've run away for good. The balance is somewhat restored with the addition of tights. Brands like Miu Miu and Puppets and Puppets joined in on the fun, will you?
