To mark the 44th year in the events long, impressive and ground-breaking history, Sydney Festival has announced an entirely Australian lineup for their 2021 program – titled Australian Made.

For director Wesley Enoch's fifth, final and undisputedly largest festival, Enoch has commissioned a total of 130 events, all of which are 100 per cent Australian made.

“We’ve got a larger program than we’ve ever had, over 145 shows, activities and talk series,” Enoch shared in an interview.

“We need to give gifts to the people of Sydney; the city is still coping and getting through things. I’m conceiving Sydney Festival as an invitation to be in your city again.”

Sydney Festival has become a bold cultural celebration in the Sydney landscape, presenting inspiring and ground-breaking new Australian art from the city's finest artists and companies. The festival is held annually in January – this year, running from the 6-26 – and features a diverse program includes everything from jaw-dropping cabaret to acclaimed theatre, modern Indigenous work and exhilarating music.

 

 

The festival is also championing female voices, bringing some of the music industry's most prolific Australian female musicians to the stage. Christine Anu, Emily Wurramara, Katie Noonan and Suze DeMarchi will perform songs written by Cold Chisel songwriter and band member, Don Walker – bringing a fresh female sound to some of Australia's most recognisable songs.

The upcoming festival will also welcome a new and monumental outdoor performance space, Headland, a new purpose-built stage at Barangaroo Reserve. The space, which is 32 metres wide, is larger than both the Capitol and Sydney Lyric theatre stages, offering an unparalleled entertainment space on Sydney harbour's shores.

In addition to Sydney Festival's exciting lineup, Sydney Film Festival will run a Summer Season, coinciding with the major arts event. As part of the festival's program, five local and international films will be screened at the State Theatre, for one weekend only from 15-17 January 2021.
