Yan Yan Chan on styling Chanel’s Coco Crush collection

Yan Yan Chan Coco Crush

If there's one thing we know how to recognise, it's Chanel's signature quilted motif. An emblem of the House since the creation of the 2.55 handbag in 1955, no matter how small the motif is iterated, the lasting power of the quilt has been cemented in our brains since forever. Which is why Chanel's Coco Crush fine jewellery collection, designed by the Chanel Fine Jewellery Creation Studio, is so recognisable.

Within its permanent collection, sharp lines are overlaid upon the smooth rounded surfaces of precious metals, polished by hand for the highest quality offered. Now, new additions to the collection have been added, The Necklace, inspired by the iconic initial letter of the house, and The Hoops, which reflect the same motifs of the "C" and quilted pattern.

Here, for Chanel, Yan Yan Chan is seen wearing the new additions to the collection, plus the classics. With makeup by Chanel Makeup Artist Filomena Natoli and styling by Ilkin Kurt, she is the Chanel woman. Here, she talks with RUSSH on beauty, styling Coco Crush, and her non-negotiables.

What is your morning beauty routine?

It’s changed slightly now that I’m city living. You don't get the luxury of dipping in the ocean bright and early. I like to wash my face with cold water, serum, moisturiser, and before SPF, I love massaging my face – waking it up, getting the blood to the surface. I end this little routine with a warm cup of green tea to flush toxins out.

What is your night beauty routine?

My night routine is very indulgent. For me, this is the moment I stop looking at my phone and allow my body and brain to slow down. I wash the day off with a hot shower, I’m one of those people who love washing my face in the sink – it’s a separate routine for me. Cold water, toner, serum, moisturiser and if I’m feeling a little dry, I love a few drops of oil to seal in all the moisture. I love to use a peel once a week for exfoliation, with a hydrating mask.… it’s something I look forward to every Sunday. I think the key to a beauty night routine is to really enjoy each moment and not rush through any of the steps. It’s one of the few moments you have throughout the day where you get to connect with yourself and your body. My last step is to always floss my teeth.

How do you experiment with your makeup and jewellery to accentuate certain elements of
your outfit/look?

For beauty, I love referencing the accessory I’m wearing for the night. Tying in the colours, and textures. If I’m wearing fine jewellery, I love adding a bit of grit to my hair or adding in a strong brow. It’s always fun contrasting the elements.

What is the one non-negotiable in your beauty routine?

Washing my face.

Do you have a beauty icon? Who are they and why?

Zoe Kravitz. I love her holistic approach to skincare, but her red carpet looks never miss. There's always a touch of rebellion.

What is your favourite way to style the pieces from the Coco Crush collection?

Stacking, layering, and celebrating Coco Crush with some of my favourite pieces which has immortalised Chanel’s quilted motif into gold. Basically, wearing a Chanel bag but on my fingers.

What’s your favourite beauty tip or hack?

Never drink cold water, and always wear sunscreen even if you're inside.

What is the best advice on beauty you’ve received?

The most important rule of beauty is self-love.
