where to buy New Balance 550

If like us, you tend to keep up with the latest and greatest sneaker drops (let's be honest, no one is rocking a stiletto right now); you would have also stumbled across the shoe currently taking the world and social media by storm. Chunky, a touch of colour and owned by just about anyone who's anyone, the New Balance 550 has become the 'it' sneaker of the moment. But great hype often comes with limited opportunity – especially when it comes to hunting these bad boys down. Thankfully, tracking down where to buy the New Balance 550 is not an entirely impossible mission.

There's no denying the rise in popularity New Balance has enjoyed over recent years. Breaking into the street style market with the reinvigorated 'dad sneaker' aka, the New Balance 990v5; the brand has become the footwear of choice for aesthetes and trendsetters across the globe. Supremely comfortable as they are covetable, New Balance's cult status has only increased from here.

So, when the brand dropped the 550 and we began to see it on the likes of Pernille Teisbaek, we already knew they would soon become the next big thing.

Surprisingly, the New Balance 550 is not a new silhouette. The style was first released in 1989, as a nod to pro basketball players in the 90s. A simple, low-cut design with a chunky, solid sole; the shoe speaks perfectly to the preppy, sporty aesthetic that has reigned supreme over the last couple of years. Especially with the release of a new colourways that kept the styles simple with just a touch of colour – forest green, navy blue, maroon, black, gold and a soon-to-be-released pastel blue.

The question on everyone's lips of course, is where does one find a sneaker that is virtually sold out? We have you covered.

Where to buy the New Balance 550?

1. New Balance:

Although most of the pre-released colours have sold out on the official New Balance website by now, you should definitely keep your eye out for any new releases and colours to come. The first place the 550s will drop will always be on the New Balance website.

2. Farfetch

Many people don't know this, but Farfetch can be a great source for tracking down covetable sneakers. The site has a great relationship with well-known sneaker marketplaces around the globe and has an impressive offering. One thing to note is that the price will unfortunately always be higher than the RRP – supply and demand, hey. But if you're willing, you might just be able to score a pair.

3. Restocks

If you're a sneaker enthusiast, you would already be familiar with Restocks. The site was the first reseller for limited-edition sneakers in the Netherlands and has since grown to garner a global following. If there's a New Balance 550 to be found in your size, it will be here.

4. Personal shopper – Gabriel Waller

We agree, this certainly seems like an excessive measure for a pair of sneakers, but we definitely wouldn't put it out of the realm of possibilities. If you're desperate to snag this shoe, look no further than personal shopper Gabriel Waller. She is a master in her craft and has hunted down more than one limited-edition sneaker in her time. If you put the task in her hands, she will definitely deliver.
