In the words of the late and great André Leon Talley, at the 2022 Oscars it was a famine of beauty. A desert rather than dessert. We were on standby, eyes creeping to the entrance like love-starved puppies praying that someone would lean down and show us a bit of affection by way of a delicious red carpet moment. Instead we were given battalions of black and white tuxedos, unsteamed silks and hairstyles straight from our own year 10 formals. Admittedly, I say all this as I sit in my musty track pants and stained tank top. Yes⁠—the irony is not lost on me. But I was not born to serve, and thankfully there were a well-endowed few reliable enough to throw us a bone. Namely, Zoë Kravitz, Rita Moreno, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Demi Singleton.

So if like us, you were wondering where the security-bedecked SUV ferrying all the glamour and flair had gotten to? It turns out it was bypassing the Oscars altogether and heading straight for the annual Vanity Fair Oscars after party. One glance at the arrivals was telling. We could do away with adjectives like "nice" and "lovely" and feast upon looks that had it all. That Zendaya moment you were holding your breath for? An unequivocally sexy Kristen Stewart? All these and more lay waiting for us beyond the doors of the Wallis Annenberg Centre for the Performing Arts.
