Is the next The Weeknd album his last one? Watch his latest trailer to find out

It's time to save your tears for another day. But that day might just be around the bend. In a cryptic move, The Weeknd has uploaded a story to his Instagram hinting at the potential end of his musical career. The story featured a performance of Save Your Tears at the 2021 Billboard Awards, accompanied by a quote by performance writer Charlie Morse: “There was a lot of trust with those cars. He didn’t seem nervous at all, which really weirded us out, because these cars were just barreling by him and he was calm, kept his composure, walked slow and just didn’t look back. It was kind of amazing.” Underneath that, a little message from the singer himself: "The end is near."

Though there has been no clarification from the artist, many are speculating a close to his chapter as The Weeknd. The artist has said previously, “The album I’m working on now is probably my last hurrah as The Weeknd,” specifying the followup to 2022’s Dawn FM. “This is something that I have to do. As The Weeknd, I’ve said everything I can say.”

In a follow-up, The Weeknd has dropped a trailor that sequences the third and final run of his musical career. There's homage to the After Hours era everywhere you look, including his red suit, sunglasses, sports car and the grizzled visuals of a much older The Weeknd from Dawn FM. An unreleased track with The Weeknd’s vocals track the background sound, while the youthful version of the artist appears, haloed by white bodies surrounding him. A ray of light shines down upon him, expanding, unearthing the lush greens of a garden beneath his feet. The video ends with a concluding omen: 'There are three chapters to this tale'.

Where can I watch the teaser?

The Weeknd had previously scrapped his entire run of sold-out Australian shows for the end of 2023, which left many fans Down Under disappointed after seeing his tour roll out across the globe. There was also no sign of rescheduling or public announcement regarding the move. But who could blame him? After a year of barrage and mixed press from The Idol, perhaps the artist is hanging up his songwriting (and performance credentials) for good. As always, we'll keep you posted on any new updates. But for now, it's time to ready for a farewell to our favourite Starboy. Or if you're me, blaze through his tracks Prisoner and Stargirl Interlude with Lana Del Rey.
