This is not a drill. The Summer I Turned Pretty: The Movie is officially underway. After captivating fans for three impeccable seasons, Prime Video dropped the exciting news that a feature film, written and directed by The Summer I Turned Pretty author Jenny Han, will be the final chapter in Belly’s story.
It was only fitting that the announcement came at a red carpet event in Paris celebrating the season three finale, where details about the movie’s plot were kept tightly under wraps. But Jenny Han gave fans a heartfelt tease, saying, “There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due.” So, here's what we know about our final trip to Cousins beach.
When will it come out?
The show's writer Jenny Han, has now given a major update on when we can realistically expect this to hit our screens – and, unfortunately, it's not for a while. “I just wrote it," Han said during The Wrap's 2025 Power Women Summit. She added, "We have not filmed anything yet."
She also shut down theories that the film would drop before 2025 is out: “I know that everyone was hoping that it was coming out this Christmas, but unfortunately, not happening, not possible."
Previously, Han spoke with Variety to talk about the upcoming film, saying the release date would likely be 2026. "I don’t know when it will be out, but I don’t think it’s safe to say next year because we haven’t filmed it yet," she explained. "I honestly really want that extra time, because it’s just getting the actors a little bit closer to adulthood. We’re getting to see Belly at 15, turning 16, and then seeing her as this young woman. And now Lola is 22! I think that I always wanted some distance for the movie, so I’m really glad to get that breathing space."

Warning: Spoilers for TSITP finale ahead.
What will the Summer I Turned Pretty movie be about?
Season three left us with some major feels: Conrad finally following his heart all the way to Paris, Belly navigating new friendships and complicated relationships, and that bittersweet tension as they decide if their love is meant to last. Meanwhile, back in Boston, Jeremiah sharpens his chef skills, and Taylor’s own story of growth and new beginnings adds depth to the ensemble.
With the series concluding on such a poignant note, the movie promises to give Belly’s coming-of-age journey the closure it deserves. Jenny Han has hinted that this final chapter will explore a “big milestone” in Belly’s life, suggesting we’ll see her grappling with the complexities of adulthood, love (perhaps a wedding?), and identity in ways the series format simply couldn’t fully capture.
Who will be involved?
Fans can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that Jenny Han, the author of The Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy and co-creator of the hit series, is fully at the helm for the movie as both writer and director.
And while the full cast for the movie hasn’t been announced yet, it’s expected that Lola Tung (Belly), Chris Briney (Conrad), Gavin Casalegno (Jeremiah), and Rain Spencer (Taylor) will return to reprise their beloved roles.
