The right attitude from Jin Soon Choi

The Korea-born, New York-local nail artist Jin Soon Choi has made a career out of artistic nails. Having worked with the biggest names in fashion and featured in some of the largest publications, here Choi tells us her career defining moments and the home care we can all do.

My breakthrough career moment was …
When my nail art was featured in the New York Times Magazine in a seven-page spread. This happened in 2002 and it was the first time nail art was featured as a main story in the history of the New York Times Magazine – what an honour! It truly transformed me from manicurist to nail artist.

The top 5 most useful products backstage/ on set are …
JINsoon Diamond nail file, JINsoon Top Gloss top coat, Tweezerman cuticle pusher, L'Occitane nail and cuticle oil and Diptyque Rose Water emulsion for the hands.

The product(s) most worth the investment are …
I use the highest professional quality implements from Tweezerman (made in Germany) including nippers, cuticle pushers and clippers - they are really worth the investment!

My biggest beauty trick / tip is …
It may seem mundane, but the most important (and easiest) nail beauty tip is to constantly moisturize your nails and cuticles like your face.  It keeps them young and fresh looking.

My favourite career memory / highlight is …
When I realised that I would be working with the legendary photographer Steven Meisel on a regular basis.

My advice to people getting started in the industry is …
Focus on your goals, work hard, be original and don't have an attitude.
