Exactly why this hyaluronic acid serum is a cult buy

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid

There's no doubt that many of us have become a little skincare obsessed in isolation. We investigated. Our finding's showed that Australians are very much loving their face masks and self-care products.

When we were deep diving into the data, we noticed there was one purchase everyone seemed to be making. We asked Afterpay for its top items sold in March and the brand came back with The Ordinary's Hyaluronic Acid serum. It's among the most sought after and purchased products across Afterpay's portfolio of stores.

If you've paid attention to the RUSSH team's morning and night skincare routines on Instagram Stories, you've probably seen this particular product pop up more than once in our beauty cabinets. For many of our team, it's a must-have. A hero product.

There are many different hyaluronic acid serums out there. They're generally popular because HA is once of the few active ingredients that has an instant effect, rather than an effect after three weeks of use. But what is it that makes this particular iteration such a cult buy?

Many people know that hyaluronic acid has intense hydration properties. It attracts a thousand times its weight in water. But what many people don't know; the wrong hyaluronic acid can actually dehydrate your skin.

Your skin has many layers, and if hyaluronic acid only reaches one of those layers, it will pull all the water from above and below - essentially drying out the other layers of your dermis.

The Ordinary's Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 combines different types of HA including low-, medium- and high-molecular weight varieties. And with the addition of Vitamin B5, which enhances surface hydration, your skin is watered and plumped at all levels.

All that and it's shockingly affordable. No wonder it's found, tucked away in the beauty cabinets of so many.
