Can a ‘Suits’ spin-off ever be as good as the original series?

Truthfully, I'd be lying if I said I don't spend much time thinking about the golden era of television drama – 2019. Iconic series like Game of ThronesOrange is the New Black, and Jane the Virgin (among others) took their final and very sad bow, and while we've been able to fill our cup with spin-off shows like House of the Dragon, a solution for the Suits-shaped hole in our hearts was yet to be found. Until now! Yes, that's correct, a spin-off of the much-loved legal drama is on its way, titled Suits: LA, and we can hardly wait!

What will Suits: LA be about?

The very name of the series might give it away, but the Suits franchise will be moving offices from New York City to Los Angeles for the spin-off. The series creator, Aaron Korsh, has confirmed that the new series will not be a reboot per say, but will exist in the same universe – similar to other cult franchises like Law & Order. As for what the series will be about, you can read all about our new leading character – Ted Black – below.

“His firm is at a crisis point, and in order to survive he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career. Ted is surrounded by a stellar group of characters who test their loyalties to both Ted and each other while they can’t help but mix their personal and professional lives. All of this is going on while events from years ago slowly unravel that led Ted to leave behind everything and everyone he loved.”

Will any of the cast from the original series be returning?

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like any of the original cast will be returning (though, whose to say we have to lose faith this early in the piece?) However, we do have some insight already into some of the stars set to front the new Suits: LA series. As mentioned, the series' leading character is Ted Black, who will be portrayed by Stephen Amell.

Alongside him is Troy Winbush as Kevin, an old friend and ex-partner of Black’s, “who is a former FBI agent and now a private detective.” Josh McDermitt – who starred in The Walking Dead – is on board as Stuart Lane, Black’s friend and company co-founder. And lastly, Lex Scott Davis will feature as Erica Rollins, an employee of Black’s described as, “a savvy and strong-willed rising star.”

Is there a release date for Suits: LA yet?

While we're certainly excited about the announcement of Suits: LA, we still have a little while to go before the series hits our screens. Deadline has reported that the production of the series was slated to begin in March 2024, so a late 2024 or early 2025 release seems likely.
