Saint Laurent looked to historical female aviators for its Spring Summer 2024 show

Saint Laurent Spring Summer 2024

Paris Fashion Week is officially underway, and the energy in the city could not be more electric. Day two was a masterclass schedule, celebrating a mix of emerging and established designers, and naturally, the blockbuster day had to come to a close in one of the most iconic locations in Paris, for Saint Laurent Spring Summer 2024.

Located at the Eiffel Tower – a favourite spot of the House's creative director, Anthony Vaccarello – the show took place under the clear sky, with the glistening light of the tower reminding us that there really is no city like Paris. A full marble set design, complete with Saint Laurent-branded walls was undeniably the hottest seat in the house, only made better by the nostalgic sound of Berlin's Take My Breathe Away blasting through the space. Like a scene right out of Top Gun, the show was both at once sensual and chic. Let's hold onto Parisian summer a little longer, shall we?

What were the standout looks from the Saint Laurent Spring Summer 2024 collection?

The first exit was a homegrown win for us Australians, with model Aleyna Fitzgerald opening the show in an ecru aviation-inspired jumpsuit, complete with the exaggerated lapel and gold hardwear details that Saint Laurent has become synonymous with. As we've seen in previous seasons, the connection and need for utility continues to present itself time after time, and particularly in a collection inspired by Amelia Earhart, Adrienne Bolland and other pioneering women who infiltrated
domains once considered exclusively male, there's an unspoken and unapologetic presence that Saint Laurent Spring Summer 2024 possesses.

The result exudes what has long been a quintessential Saint Laurent premise: assertive sophistication, liberally taking elements from a men's wardrobe and making them lastingly feminine. Service jackets and pleated trousers appeared on the runway in earthy tones of browns, burgundy, olive and black, contrasted by sheer tops and white tanks that appeared almost like a second skin on the models.

In true Vaccarello and Saint Laurent style, accessories were not left to the wayside. Oversized sunglasses and head caps fronted as the ultimate shield for their wearers from unprecedented winds (because, what is Paris without a little wind?), and there was no denying that statement leather gloves were designed to have even us fashion lovers behind the wheel in no time.

In every essence, the collection was defined by simplicity and a return to foundations. The stance is pragmatic, with couture-informed daytime looks and a looser silhouette than in past seasons. One thing is for certain, bring back cargo pants and we will come knocking!

Who attended the Saint Laurent Spring Summer 2024?

As we mentioned, the Saint Laurent show never disappoints, and this year's show attendance was nothing short of A-class. Hailey Bieber, BLACKPINK's Rosé, Kate Moss, Demi Moore, Tracee Ellis Ross, Emma Mackey, and Austin Butler were just some of the stars who supported the House, all donning Saint Laurent in their own unique way.
