A moment for River Phoenix, the definition of 90’s soft boi style

River Phoenix

River Phoenix, our pensive boy wonder. There are few who can live up to to the deeply cool and ethereal quality that he once emanated. These days we have the likes of Charlie Heaton and Harry Styles, with their dainty Venusian qualities, floppy hair and fox like features to remind us of a bygone era of the alternate soft boi. But we digress, there is still something amiss without him. Not quite joining the 27 club (sadly passing at the tender age of 23) like that of his other music contemporaries, much of his existence was likewise planted in the grunge scene. Seen often out in LA hot spots in distressed jeans, oversized band tees and his signature soft mid-length blonde mane, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who looked better in round bifocals and Dr. Martens.

He was a key heart throb of the day, alongside that of his good pal and fellow 90's icon Keanu. The two later starring in a Gus Van Sant film that has us remembering why all men should own shearling. He spent the better part of his life drifting apart from Hollywood, focussing on his music. Nonetheless, he still had plenty of swoon-worthy moments between the two worlds. If you need a refresher on why he's the prettiest picture to come out of the 90's alternate scene, we're here to show you.

Love River, hate Johnny. But nonetheless, green plaid, bifocals and leather a winning combination.

A reminder why platinum blonde is still a big yes, and why all men in the 90's had infinitely cooler hair.
