Remember ‘The OA’? The series’ creators are back with another doozy of a show, ‘Retreat’, and this is one not to miss

Retreat show

If you are someone who finds great pride (and joy), in staying across all of Netflix's best releases; you will surely remember the mind-bending, sci-fi series The OA, which first premiered on the streaming platform back in 2016. After two seasons and plenty of controversy, the show's creators Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij announced that the series had been cancelled. If like many of us, you have been waiting eagerly for the duo's next project; we're here to happily announce that it is finally on the way. Marling and Batmanglij's latest show is called Retreat, and it's everything we had hoped and more.

Similarly to The OA, Marling will take on the show's lead role as Darby Hart; a Gen Z amateur sleuth who is tasked with solving a murder at the secluded retreat of a reclusive billionaire. The series puts a contemporary twist on the classic 'whodunit' tale.

According to Deadline, Retreat follows Darby and 11 other guests who, "are invited by a reclusive billionaire to participate in a retreat at a remote and dazzling location. When one of the other guests is found dead, Darby must fight to prove it was murder against a tide of competing interests and before the killer takes another life."

The show will find itself on FX and is being both written and directed by Marling, in collaboration with Batmangli. After the following the duo garnered from The OA; it's clear that FX is excited to bring their fans on board.

Speaking about the upcoming project in a press tour earlier this year, FX Networks chairman John Landgraf shared; “We absolutely loved what Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij came to us with,” Landgraf adds, “which is radical reconceptualisation of ‘whodunit’ with a really, really original set of characters... It’s a distinctive and unique show that is not that easy to produce.”

In a recent Instagram post; Marling revealed that she had been working on the script with Batmanglij for over a year. “I’ve never felt a character pour out of us like Darby Hart has. Very excited to bring it to the screen and you all… think this one’s a doozy,” she continued.
