I stand by the opinion that stainless steel is the best way to cook. As long as you get the temperatures right, stainless steel can be just as stick-free as your coated fry pans. But, for those who prefer the ease of a non-stick pan, there are options out there that don't include PFAS.
In case you didn't know, PFAS is an umbrella term for a group of chemicals often used to make products non-stick, this includes cookware but also things like shoe protectant sprays and water repellant sprays.
Unfortunately, some PFAS chemicals have been definitively linked to a number of serious health conditions. They also cumulatively collect in environment and the body without degrading, leading to their nickname 'forever chemicals'. Once you've consumed PFAS in your food or your water, they're in you, forever.
It's for this reason that more and more of us are looking for PFAS-free solutions, especially when it comes to cookware. Of course, research suggest PFAS pans are safe to use at low temperatures, but if you'd rather not run the risk, there are other options. Below, find our list of PFAS-free cookware.
Note: Don't be fooled by brands that label themselves PFOA-free. PFOA is just one type of PFAS chemical, so while a non-stick pan could technically be PFOA-free, it could have other kinds of PFAS chemicals.
