What exactly is a Harvest Moon? Is it the same as a Supermoon?
While the term is sometimes colloquially used to mean a larger than normal Moon, a Harvest Moon actually refers to the Full Moon that falls closest to the September Equinox.
If you live in the Northern Hemisphere, the September Equinox marks the shift into the cooler months of the year. Therefore, the Full Moon closest to this equinox would often signal the last opportunity for a big harvest of crops, before the barrenness of winter sets in. Some times the Harvest Moon falls at the end of September. But other times like this year, it falls in October.
Of course, this is not the same as a Supermoon. The term "Supermoon" refers to a Moon that appears larger than normal owing to its closer position to Earth. Since the Moon's orbit is not a perfect circle around the Earth, there will be times when it is closer than others. If the Moon reaches perigee – which is it's closest point, around 363,300 km from Earth – at the time of the Full Moon, then a Supermoon occurs. According to NASA a Supermoon can appear "14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter."
What does the Supermoon in Aries mean for you?
Full Moons represent are the energetic peak of the Moon Cycle. This is why they are known as a time of chaos and all-round moodiness. Emotions can run high and you might feel more vibrant and awake. It's because Full Moons are a moment of illumination – figuratively and literally. When they light up the sky, then can also spark inspiration and reveal hidden influences that might have tried to lead you astray.
Since this Full Moon is a Supermoon, these experiences will be amplified. Supermoons can feel particularly intense and emotional in their own unique ways. Under the influence of Aries, this Moon will bring with it a sense of urgency. A feeling that everything must happen now. You will need to remind yourself to slow down and that good things take time. Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, so it is one that is associated with new beginnings and passion. On a micro-level, this Moon might be just what to need; giving you the energy and inspiration to make the changes you've been wanting to make but keep putting off.
Whether that's as small as deep-cleaning your room or a more serious change like finally having the energy to begin searching for a new job; this Full Moon will be all about taking action. Just remember that giving yourself imaginary deadlines is not always helpful. Be comfortable to work at a pace that keeps you motivated and mentally balanced.
A T-square throwing the Moon and the Sun against Jupiter in Cancer threatens to throw you off-course. This is an impulsive and maybe even erratic aspect, that demands abundance, and now. If you're feeling frustrated or sad by the current pace in achieving your long-held aspirations, this will throw further fuel on the fire. Do not sabotage yourself by making unreasonable demands and expecting the yield of crops you have yet to sow.
The message here is that you will need to practice patience and understand the value of waiting over instant gratification. This will be especially true of new relationships. While passionate Aries will have you ready to throw your full weight into something new and share all of yourself all at once, remember you need to gently nurture and water a growing connection before it can truly bloom.
