In very exciting news for your bank account (we see you, soon-to-be-recession-core!), the girlies of TikTok have decided that this season's nail trend is....nothing. Quite literally, a naked, simple-or-no-polish, short nail. That's it. And honestly, we're relieved that something practical and fiscally achievable is finally in fashion – at least for the moment. Perhaps following in suit of trends like fuller, fluffy brows and salty, ocean hair, it seems that we are leaning overall toward a less-is-more approach to your beauty routine. No longer are we being held to the lofty ideals of a perfectly contoured face, and dangerously lengthy talons. This season we're going back to the basics with naked nails – and accentuating and nourishing our natural nails in all their short glory.

The short-nail comeback has been a long time coming – it feels like forever now that we've been seeing famous women like Billie Eilish or the Kardashians rock impractically long, embellished nails. And surely, the time has come for pragmatism to reign? We've now seen the likes of Iris Law, Hailey Bieber and Jisoo all swapping out their elaborate acrylics for naked manis, either rocking short nails with simple gel or polish (like one of these winter nail polish colours we're currently loving), or even forgoing the polish altogether for a more 'naked' look.

At the very least, it's a chance to let your nails breathe, what with all the damage that conventional nail salons can impart at our regular twice-monthly upkeep appointments. And don't get us started on the cost. We're considering this permission to cancel our next appointment at the nail salon, and to whip out the nail file and some cuticle oil for some free, at-home maintenance.
