Miranda Kerr on balance, organic beauty and her non-negotiables

Miranda Kerr has been a beauty icon since the moment her career began. Her seemingly effortless, but always radiant, approach to beauty meant that we've been coveting her classic looks since we first learned her name.

But of course, there's always more going on than meets the eye. The founder & CEO of global beauty brand KORA Organics balances life as a mother of three, and achieving the minimal beauty and holistic zen she's so known for takes dedication and hard work.

Below, Kerr shares with us the inside details of her beauty and wellness routine. For her, beauty starts on the inside out and sometimes nothing is more energising than rubbing your feet on grass.

What is your morning beauty routine?

My morning routine consists of using our Milky Mushroom Gentle Cleansing Oil, followed by the Turmeric Brightening & Exfoliating 2-in-1 Mask, the Balancing Rose Mist, then I apply a few pumps of the Noni Bright Vitamin C Serum which contains Kakadu Plum which is one of the highest sources of naturally occurring vitamin C - this product has been a lifesaver for brightening my skin and reducing pigmentation. Then I use our new Turmeric Glow Moisturizer over my face, neck and décolletage, it is amazing and keeps my skin glowing all day. I then apply the Noni Radiant Eye Oil and Noni Glow Face Oil for an extra boost of nourishment.

What is your night beauty routine?

In the evenings, my process is the same, but I double cleanse with the Milky Mushroom Cleansing Oil to ensure all my makeup is removed, I then switch out the Rose Mist and use our Calming Lavender Mist (I also spritz this on my pillow before going to sleep) and I swap the Noni Bright Vitamin C Serum for 1-2 pumps of our Noni Night AHA Resurfacing Serum which is a great anti-aging product.

I then follow the remainder of my routine with the Turmeric Glow Moisturizer, Noni Radiant Eye Oil and Noni Glow Face Oil. My last step right before bed, I smooth on my Noni Glow Sleeping Mask, and I don’t wash it off until the morning. It dries as a translucent veil, seals in all the moisture and nutrients from the other products, and doesn’t rub off on your pillow. Additionally, I spend a little time both morning and night using our Rose Quartz Gua Sha Heart Sculptor to stimulate circulation and reduce puffiness. Gua sha is an ancient eastern technique that is such an incredible remedy, and I created a gua sha based on this traditional practice so I could do my own facial massages at home to help naturally lift and sculpt my face.

Describe what you do for a living? What does a typical day look like for you?

I am a mother, a wife and founder and CEO of KORA Organics. My husband and I have been working from home since March 2020, Flynn is still doing online school for the moment and the two little ones are both running around now and very active. There’s never a dull moment but we do our best trying to balance home and work life. No two days are ever really the same, but I try and schedule my calls and work around both Hart and Myles nap times.

I wake up at 5:30am whenever my husband’s alarm goes off. The kids don’t wake up until 6:30 or 7 so it gives me a chance to take some time for myself – I’ll do a 20 minute meditation. Then I do my skincare routine and have 32 ounces of celery juice on an empty stomach. Once the kids are up we all eat breakfast together. Once the kids are settled, I start work for the day. I love working from home as I get to be around for my children, but I make sure to really try to wrap things up by 5pm so I can be fully present to do their wind down routine: bath, dinner and reading together.

What is the supermarket/ drug store/ chemist beauty product(s) that you use and love?

I love buying dry body brushes and tweezers from the drug store. From the supermarket, I love buying sea salt in bulk and using it in the bath. Coconut oil is another great supermarket find and an all-around great beauty treatment too for oil pulling, putting in the ends of your hair and a great inexpensive way to moisturise your whole body.

What is your main form of beauty body maintenance? What products do you use on your body?

I religiously dry body brush every morning. It is a great way to get circulation going and remove dead skin cells. It’s so energising! Another body tool I am obsessed with is my Theragun mini. I massage my whole body with it, it really helps loosen any tension. I also use my Rose Quartz Heart Facial Sculptor for massage all over my face and body and on pressure points. It's so quick and easy and instantly makes me feel less stressed.

The products I use on my body are- KORA Organics body wash, body lotion, body oil and body balm. The body wash is great for the whole family- I even wash my kids hair with it. The body lotion and body oil is a must have after my shower as it keeps my skin so hydrated and smooth. I sometimes add the body balm if my skin is needing an extra boost of moisture. I often apply it on my legs if they need an extra GLOW. It’s also another incredible product for the whole family and something that I keep in my bag as it is amazing for any dry patches and won’t spill in your bag. Because the skin on our bodies is the largest surface area it’s so important to use products that are healthy for you and not full of toxins. KORA Organics is certified organic, which means not only do we not use any ingredients that are toxic or harmful, we also have more powerful results than a regular clean beauty product. Cambridge University did a study on certified organic ingredients and it showed that there are up to 60 percent more antioxidants in a certified organic ingredient.

How do you keep fit/ healthy? Does exercise form a large part of your routine?

I enjoy Kundalini Yoga with Amy Shea (US) and Charlotte Dodson (Australia), Pilates/Ballet with Mary Helen Bowers (US), and The Pilates Class online (Australia) whenever I can fit workouts in. I recently committed to working out six days a week with the Tracy Anderson Method.

What procedures or professional treatments do you have as part of your beauty routine?

I love switching up my facials. I see Facials Ivan Pol, Candice Marino The LA Facialist or Nousha Salimi. I also do lasers and high frequency machines with Marianna Vergara at Beauty Villa Vergara once every few months. I don’t really have time for haircuts so I generally just get them done with my hair stylist Ericka Verrett whenever I need to. I get lymphatic massages with Flavia Lanini once every few months. I also get mani and pedis with Kim Truong weekly or every other week. I wax and do eyebrow tint as needed with Kim Nguyen. I also do teeth whitening once a year.

What do you do when your body needs to recover?

Bath, massage and sleep.

You’re tired or rundown: what is your beauty hack?

One thing I find that really helps me when I feel tired or run down is going outside, putting my feet in the grass, opening my palms to the sun and visualising my whole body being filled with that golden light. It instantly helps me feel re-energised

I also take our Noni glow skin food supplement with water in the morning and in the afternoon which gives me a gentle boost of energy. Other supplements for energy like I like are liquid B-12 from vimergy and Nadovim Focus+Concentration. If my skin looks tired and needs a little boost, I apply the Noni Glow Sleeping Mask and leave it on for a 5-10min express hydration mask. This instantly revives my complexion.

What is the one non-negotiable in your beauty routine?

Besides using KORA Organics, I’d have to say I can’t function as well without my daily Celery Juice. Every morning I have 32 ounces of celery juice on an empty stomach. I have been doing this for a couple of years now and love it as part of my morning routine. Celery is amazing, as it's a powerful anti-inflammatory, supports kidney function, is alkalising and is also full of electrolytes.

Do you have a beauty icon? Who are they and why?

Audrey Hepburn, her grace, beauty and style is timeless.

What is the best advice on beauty you’ve received?

Honestly the best base for great makeup is great skincare! A recent tip I've been incorporating lately is to put our Rose Quartz Luminizer mixed with a drop of Noni Glow Face Oil all over my face, so not on top of my makeup but underneath it, to add an extra glow.

What is the best advice on health you’ve received?

Health is wealth. You really need to prioritise and invest in taking care of yourself, mentally, physically and emotionally.

What is the one product you can’t live without?

It’s hard to narrow it down to one!

Turmeric 2-in-1 Exfoliating Face Mask; This product is like nothing like I’ve ever tried before - it’s an actual physical exfoliant and a deeply detoxifying mask in one. It is like an at home facial in a tube! The peppermint aromatherapy is so invigorating for your senses and the rose hip seeds combined with the aspen bark and papaya enzymes deeply exfoliate your skin while the turmeric brightens and helps with dark spots and pigmentation. I’m obsessed with this product!

And our brand new Turmeric Glow Moisturizer; This ultra-rich moisturiser is my go-to skin saviour. I use it morning and night. It deeply hydrates, brightens and soothes. I love that it gives my skin a radiant glow!
