As Stranger Things enters its fifth final season, Millie Bobby Brown is already looking ahead — and her next role might be even more transformative than Eleven.

According to Deadline, Brown is in final negotiations to star as Kerri Strug — the American gymnast who became a national icon at the 1996 Olympic Games — in Perfect, a biopic directed by Gia Coppola. And if early details are anything to go by, this could be Brown’s most ambitious role to date. Here's what you need to know.

Who is Kerri Strugg, and what is Perfect about?

The film will chronicle the true story of Kerri Strug, a member of the famed 1996 U.S. women’s gymnastics team known as “The Magnificent Seven.” Strug's defining moment came when, despite a severe ankle injury, she delivered a near-perfect vault routine, securing the gold medal for Team USA before collapsing and being famously carried off the mat by her coach.

It remains one of the most memorable images in Olympic history, both for the sheer athleticism of it all, but also for what it symbolised: sacrifice, and the intense physical and emotional demands placed on young athletes.

Unsurprisingly, many are already comparing the role to Margot Robbie's career-defining portrayal of Tonya Hardin in I, Tonya. A very strong next step, as Brown ventures out of the world of Hawkins, Indiana.

Who is involved?

Perfect will be directed by Gia Coppola, whose recent film The Last Showgirl — starring Pamela Anderson, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Dave Bautista — earned Anderson a Golden Globe nomination. The script is penned by Ronnie Sandahl, who also wrote Borg vs McEnroe, another high-pressure sports biopic exploring fame and identity.

Brown will not only star, but also produce under her PCMA banner. Netflix is reportedly in final talks to secure the project.

When will it come out?

The project is still in final negotiations, but sources say production is expected to begin in mid 2026.

For now, Brown is wrapping up Stranger Things Season 5, which will be released in three parts — starting with a Thanksgiving weekend (that's November 27, for those of us in Australia) drop, and ending with a final episode set to land on New Year’s Day. She also has Enola Holmes 3 in development, and is set to star in Just Picture It, which begins filming soon.
