We can't all be in Italy this winter, but thankfully here in Australia we have plenty of authentic European restaurants to transport you to the European summer you've been dreaming of. Our favourite? Surry Hills' Mille Vini. With a full Italian menu featuring fresh, seasonal produce, it's the perfect place to keep your Italian food cravings at bay.
The Mille Vini Long Italian Sunday Lunch:
You’ll kick off with a refreshing cocktail, and a table-full of starters (Italian style). Think oozy burrata, crudo and crostini stracciatella (small miniature toasted breads with toppings such as olive puttanesca, anchovies or cured capocollo).
Next up is the warming, generous main dish servings. The menu changes seasonally depending on what’s fresh and what artisan products are available, but some of our favourites include cavatelli with slow braised beef cheeks ragù in red wine, and mushroom and truffle ravioli - how do you say 'Yum!' in Italian? Each course will also be paired with a wine from an emerging Italian winemaker.
You can then venture downstairs to watch the smoke and flames unfold right in front of you in the open-plan kitchen. Home-style Italian dishes are made with love and care by Mille Vini’s team, led by amazing head chef, Ryan Gambetta.
Round things out with a slab of MV’s famous caramel tiramisu with a dessert wine.... that’s a Sunday lunch well spent.
