New York Fashion week has offered us a little bit of everything so far. We've seen unadulterated futurism from Dion Lee, a tribute to the ladies who lunch at Carolina Herrera, an offering of clothing for real New Yorkers from Maryam Nassir Zadeh and Eckhaus Latta, and now, an invitation to step up and out, per Mr. Kors request for Michael Kors' Fall 2022 collection.
"Big city beauties" was the brief supplied to models before stepping out onto the runway at music venue Terminal 5 in Manhattan last night to a soundtrack performed live by Miguel; and if that alone didn't set the tone for the show, the glammed up monochrome ensembles soon would.
If there is one thing we can rely on Kors to deliver on, it's maximum impact glamour and fierceness, and for Fall 2022, it was offered in heaped spoons of thigh-high boots, slashed skirts to the underwear line, clutch coats and slinky racerback dresses. The Michael Kors woman is always steeped in impact, and this season, it came by way of layered neutrals and coordinated ensembles of electric corals, yellows, and fuchsia, embodied by every kind of New York woman. There was the one who favours the slouchy beige suit and the luxuriously tailored wool coat; the one willing to reveal a little more with exposed shoulders on scantily hemmed mini dresses and boots perfect for stomping; the one swathed in faux fur, ready to make a different kind of entrance, and the one ready for an awards show in floor length sequin gowns with modern cut outs.
Most importantly, MK knows that the NYC woman, as whichever character she decides to play, always needs to be comfortable. This is the formula Kors so effortlessly ushers in.
"For this show, I wanted to bring the excitement and energy of a night on the town to life—because I think right now, no matter where you are, we’re all craving that,” says Michael Kors in a post-show press release. “And the clothes are really everything you need for stepping up, stepping out and making an entrance.”
